The best thing about Nancy Roberts' stories are the way the stories were told.  She had  a true story-teller's voice and her tales stayed with you.

She made you laugh.
She made you cry.
She shivered your timbers.

I hope teachers and librarians in the Carolinas will read this . . . Nancy

Hello, Nancy! It was good to see you at the book signing in Charlotte. I read Blackbeard's Cat and loved it. I am going to buy 2 multi-copy sets so the 3rd grade teachers can use them a classroom reading units. I came right home and applied for a grant that I feel sure we will get. The winners will be announced in November. If the grant comes through, we are going to do a reading and writing unit with all third grade students. I will buy enough copies of your various titles that are in paperback, so that we can give each of our 130 third graders one to take home when the unit is completed.

We will spend two weeks reading as many of your tales as we can with the children. Then we would like to have you visit. After your visit, we want to send the children out into their communities to collect some of their own folklore -- ghost stories and other. We can then use our school computer lab to let them type in the stories and scan in pictures that they draw into a booklet. We can use our digital camera to add pictures of the people who contribute the stories; these, too, can be scanned into our booklet. We are very excited and are making our plans just like we already have the money in hand!
